The theater was opened in 1896 and is a symbol of the prosperous life of Brazil during The Amazon Rubber Boom between 1879 and 1912. Almost all the building materials for the erection and cladding of the theater were brought to Brazil from Europe. The Amazon Theatre is the most important tourist attraction in Manaus and one of the main architectural monuments of the state of Amazonas. It is a working theater of Brazil and hosts the Amazonas Festival of Opera with national and international artists.
