Petra is a historical and archaeological city in Jordan and one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. It is in the southern part of Jordan in 262 km south of Amman. The city was built in the 1st century AD in cool Siq canyon, city name translated from Greek means «stone». Some the buildings was carved into the rock, such as Al Khazneh, and some are constructed usual way. Earlier the city was at the crossroads of two major trade routes in the Middle East, one the way connected the Red Sea with Damascus, and the other way connected the Persian Gulf with Gaza. Many years the city has prospered by trade, and today it is one of the main sights of Jordan.
