The Jefferson Memorial is a memorial to the third president and “founding father” of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. It is located in Western Park on the banks of the man-made Potomac River Tidal Basin south of the White House, at the southern end of National Mall in the heart of downtown Washington, DC.
The memorial was built in 1943 in the neoclassical style at the suggestion of the 25th President of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt, who was an admirer of Thomas Jefferson. Externally, it resembles a Roman pantheon made of marble. In 1947, a full-length bronze statue of Jefferson was placed in its very center. The Jefferson Memorial itself and the man-made Potomac River Tidal Basin can be seen through this webcam.
