Guadalajara is both a city and the capital of the Mexican state of Jalisco. Covering an area of 150 square kilometers, it serves as the home to approximately 1.4 million residents. In conjunction with its neighboring cities, Guadalajara forms the Guadalajara metropolitan area, the second most populous metropolitan area in Mexico, boasting a population exceeding 5 million.

Situated within the Atemajac Valley in the heart of the state of Jalisco, Guadalajara is located 300 kilometers to the east of the popular resort city of Puerto Vallarta. It holds a prominent status as one of the most vital economic, tourist, and transportation hubs in southwestern Mexico and stands as the cultural capital of the entire nation. The Guadalajara metropolitan area ranks as the third most significant economic center in Mexico, following Mexico City and Monterrey.

Guadalajara boasts a diverse industrial landscape, including textile, footwear, food, and automotive sectors. Furthermore, it hosts factories of prominent high-tech companies like General Electric, Intel, Hitachi, Hewlett Packard, and Siemens AG, among others.

The city experiences a humid subtropical climate characterized by hot and humid summers, as well as warm and dry winters. Founded in 1542, Guadalajara is renowned for its picturesque colonial-era buildings and numerous Baroque-style churches.
