The United States of America (USA) is one of the largest countries in the world, located mainly in North America. It consists of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions. The United States has a population of over 333 million people. The USA covers an area of approximately 9.8 million km². This makes the USA the third most populous and third largest country in the world by area.

The USA is bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The United States includes the state of Alaska, located in the extreme northwest of the American continent and bordering Canada to the east and Russia through the Bering Strait to the west.

The Pacific Ocean is home to the state of Hawaii, occupying the Hawaiian Islands archipelago. The Caribbean Sea is also home to a number of United States possessions – Puerto Rico, Midway, American Samoa, Guam, and several others. The capital of the United States is Washington, D.C., and the most populous city is New York.

Climate in the USA

Due to its vast territory, the USA covers almost all climate zones, from the hot tropical climate in the state of Hawaii and southern Florida to the harsh Arctic climate of Northern Alaska. Most of the United States is in the temperate climate influence zone, namely southern Alaska and the northern states of the continental United States. The southern states of the continental U.S. have a warm, sunny subtropical climate. The state of Hawaii and the southern part of Florida are in the hot tropical climate zone. Most of Alaska is dominated by a subarctic climate, and northern Alaska is under the rule of the Arctic polar climate.
