It is a complex consisting of several optical telescopes built and funded by different countries, including: Britain, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Chile, USA, etc. The Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) and panoramic telescope system Pan-STARRS to observe the entire sky are to be built here.

Mauna Kea with 4,205 meters above sea level is the highest point in the state of Hawaii and the highest mountain in the ocean. It’s an ideal place for observing the night sky thanks to excellent weather condition year-round and location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean away from lights of large cities. Thanks to equatorial location the Mauna Kea Observatories let to observe both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres of the sky.
