San Francisco is the fourth largest city in the state of California and one of the largest cultural, financial, commercial, tourist and technological centers in the United States. It is located on the northern part of the San Francisco Peninsula, which separates San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean, 614 km (382 mi) north of Los Angeles, and 90 km (55 mi) north of San Jose. The city is home to about 884,000 people and has a total area of 600 km², of which only 121.3 km² is land.
