Tenerife is the largest island in the Canary Islands archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean and the most populous island in Spain. Its area is 2,035 km² (785 sq mi), with a population of about 906,000 people. Approximately 45% of all Canary Island residents live on Tenerife.
Tenerife has the longest coastline among the archipelago’s islands, stretching 342 km (213 miles). In the center of the island rises Mount Teide, a volcano standing 3,718 meters (12,198 feet) above sea level, making it the highest point on Tenerife and in all of Spain.
Tenerife is located in the central part of the archipelago, west of Gran Canaria and east of La Gomera. The largest city and administrative center is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, located on the northeast coast of the island.

Summer temperatures range from +23°C to +29°C (73°F to 84°F), while winter temperatures range from +20°C to +26°C (68°F to 79°F). In summer, temperatures can sometimes reach +30°C (86°F).
The sea temperature stays between +20°C and +23°C (68°F to 73°F) throughout the year. Rainfall is sparse on Tenerife, with more than 70% of all precipitation occurring in the northern part of the island.
