Trapani is a city and the capital of the province of Trapani in the Sicily region of Italy. It is located on the western coast of Sicily, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Marsala and 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Palermo. Trapani is known for its Old Town, with narrow streets, Baroque architecture, historic churches, and cathedrals, as well as archaeological sites and solar salt pans where salt has been harvested for centuries. The city has a population of approximately 70,000 people and covers an area of 272 square kilometers (about 105 square miles).
