About Rubtsovsk
Rubtsovsk is located in the southwest of Altai Krai, in the Aleysk steppe, on the left bank of the Aley River, a tributary of the Ob River, 290 km southwest of Barnaul. The city covers an area of about 100 kmยฒ and has a population of approximately 124,687 (2021), making it the third-largest city in Altai Krai after Barnaul and Biysk.
Founded in 1886 by settler Mikhail Rubtsov, the city was named in his honor. Initially a farming settlement, Rubtsovsk gradually developed, gaining the status of a village and later becoming a town with active markets. Today, Rubtsovsk is a key industrial center, with well-developed machinery, food, and light industries. Major enterprises include the Rubtsovsk Spare Parts Plant and the Rubtsovsk Dairy Plant. The city is also an important agricultural hub, specializing in grain and sunflower production.
