About Palawan Islands
Palawan is an archipelagic province in the western Philippines, consistently voted the “World’s Best Island” by Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler. Stretching 450 km from Mindoro to Borneo, it comprises one main island and over 1,780 smaller islands surrounded by some of the clearest waters on Earth.
Known as the country’s last ecological frontier, Palawan is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park and Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. More than 50 % of the province remains covered in ancient rainforest, protecting rare species like the Philippine cockatoo and mouse-deer. The population is just over 950,000, with Puerto Princesa (the capital), El Nido, and Coron as the main tourism hubs. Locals are warm, English is widely spoken, and the province has earned a reputation as one of the safest and cleanest destinations in Southeast Asia.
Climate in Palawan
Palawan enjoys a tropical climate with two seasons:
- Dry season (November – May) – ideal weather: 24–33 °C (75–91 °F), calm seas, almost no rain. March and April are the driest and most popular months.
- Wet season (June – October) – still warm, short afternoon showers, lush greenery, and far fewer crowds. Palawan is one of the least typhoon-affected areas in the Philippines.
Water temperature stays 27–30 °C year-round — perfect for swimming and diving every day.
