Debrecen is the second-largest city in Hungary and the largest center in the eastern part of the country. It is an important cultural, educational, and economic hub of the region. The city’s area is approximately 178 square miles (461 km²), and the population is approximately 200,000–205,000 people. Debrecen is known as the “Calvinist Rome” due to its significant role in the history of the Protestant movement.

The city is located in the eastern part of the country, on the Great Hungarian Plain (Alföld), not far from the border with Romania. The distance to Budapest is approximately 143 miles (230 km). Debrecen is located near cities such as Nyíregyháza and Szeged, and plays a key role in the Northern Great Plain region.
