About Phuket
Phuket, Thailand’s largest island (48 km long, 21 km wide), is the country’s premier beach destination and one of the world’s most famous tropical playgrounds. Connected to the mainland by the Sarasin Bridge, it welcomes over 10 million visitors annually who come for its perfect mix of stunning nature, vibrant nightlife, luxury resorts, and rich Sino-Portuguese heritage.
Once a tin-mining and rubber plantation island, Phuket transformed into a global tourism icon in the 1980s after the airport opened. Today it offers something for everyone: party lovers head to Patong, honeymooners choose secluded northern beaches, families love Kata and Karon, wellness seekers escape to Natai and Mai Khao, while culture enthusiasts explore historic Phuket Old Town with its colourful shophouses and street art.
Despite rapid development, more than 60 % of the island remains covered in jungle and mangroves, and its west coast boasts over 30 beautiful beaches — from lively 3-km strips to hidden coves reachable only by boat.
Climate in Phuket
Phuket has a classic tropical monsoon climate with two main seasons:
- High season (November–April) – perfect weather: 24–32 °C (75–90 °F), low humidity, calm turquoise sea, almost no rain. December–January is peak season.
- Low / Green season (May–October) – hotter (30–34 °C), higher humidity, short heavy showers (usually late afternoon), lush greenery and up to 70 % lower hotel prices. The sea remains warm (28–30 °C) and great for surfing on the west coast.
Thanks to its location in the Andaman Sea, Phuket enjoys around 300 sunny days a year and spectacular sunsets almost every evening.
