About El Gouna

El Gouna, known as “The Lagoon” in Arabic (الجونة, al-Juna), is a modern resort city along the Red Sea, approximately 25 km north of Hurghada and 450 km southeast of Cairo. Founded in the late 1980s by Samih Sawiris and developed by Orascom Development, the city features an intricate network of lagoons, canals, luxury hotels, and residential districts. Stretching along 10 km of coastline, El Gouna includes artificial islands connected by bridges, creating a Venice-like ambiance.

With a seasonal population of 12,000–20,000, including residents, tourism staff, and visitors, El Gouna’s infrastructure includes two marinas—Abu Tig Marina and New Marina—a private airstrip (El Gouna Airport, HEGO), eco-friendly transport like electric carts, taxis, and water shuttles, and easy access via Hurghada International Airport (HRG). Our El Gouna live webcams capture the city’s vibrant energy, from bustling marinas to serene lagoon waterfronts.

Climate

El Gouna has a tropical desert climate (BWh), with minimal rainfall and year-round sunshine. Average temperatures hover around 24–25°C (75–77°F), with summer highs of 35–36°C (95–97°F) and mild winter temperatures of 20–22°C (68–72°F). Constant sea breezes make it ideal for kitesurfing and windsurfing, particularly at Mangroovy Beach.

The best time to visit is from October to May, when conditions are dry, sunny, and perfect for beach activities and water sports. El Gouna live cams provide real-time insight into temperature, wind strength, cloud cover, and water conditions.
