Zabaykalsky Krai, part of Russiaโ€™s Far Eastern Federal District and economic region, was formed in 2008 by merging Chita Oblast and Agin-Buryat Autonomous Okrug. It borders Amur Oblast, Yakutia, Irkutsk Oblast, China, and Mongolia. The population is around 992,429, and the area is 431,892 kmยฒ. Chita is the administrative center, located at the confluence of the Chita and Ingoda Rivers.
