About Zabaykalsky Krai

Zabaykalsky Krai, part of Russia’s Far Eastern Federal District and economic region, was formed in 2008 by merging Chita Oblast and Agin-Buryat Autonomous Okrug. It borders Amur Oblast, Yakutia, Irkutsk Oblast, China, and Mongolia. The population is around 992,429, and the area is 431,892 km². Chita is the administrative center, located at the confluence of the Chita and Ingoda Rivers.

Major cities include: Chita (350,000), Krasnokamensk (52,000), Borzya (28,000), Petrovsk-Zabaykalsky (16,500), Nerchinsk (14,900), Mogocha (13,000), Shilka (12,700), Baley (10,200), Khilok (10,000), and Sretensk (6,600).
