This live webcam shows Lenin Square in the city of Chita in Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia.
Lenin Square is Chita’s central square and cultural hub, rich in history. It is bordered by Chaikovsky, Leningradskaya, Lermontov, and Butina streets. The square originated with the construction of the Alexander Nevsky Church, consecrated in 1912. After the church was demolished in 1936, the area was transformed, landscaped, and renamed Lenin Square, featuring parks, pedestrian alleys, fountains, and the “Stone Flower” sculpture.
Architectural landmarks around the square include the Post Office, City Hall, Zabaykalskaya Railway building, and Zabaykalye Hotel. The square hosts major events, such as Chita City Day, Victory Day, New Year celebrations, and in winter, the city’s main Christmas tree and an ice town are installed.
Chita is the largest city and administrative center of Zabaykalsky Krai, with over 350,000 residents and an area of 534 km². It lies near Lake Kenon in southeastern Russia, 350 km north of the Chinese border and 600 km east of Lake Baikal. The city has a sharply continental climate: winters are cold and dry, summers warm and occasionally hot, with most precipitation falling in summer.
