Zamoskvorechye is one of the ten districts of Moscow’s Central Administrative Okrug and one of the few areas of the capital that has preserved the atmosphere of old Moscow. In medieval times, the road to the Golden Horde passed through this area, which is reflected in the names of two historic streets — Bolshaya and Malaya Ordynka. The district is known for its 19th–20th century residential buildings and numerous old mansions. It is also home to major landmarks such as the Tretyakov Gallery, the Church of the Resurrection in Kadashi, the Church of St. Gregory of Neocaesarea, and many others.
Zamoskvorechye lies on the right bank of the Moskva River in the very center of the capital, just south of the Kremlin. To the west it borders Yakimanka, to the east — Tagansky District, to the south — Danilovsky District, and to the north — Tverskoy District. The area offers plenty of restaurants, cafés, and pubs where visitors can relax and enjoy the local atmosphere. Zamoskvorechye also features Paveletsky Railway Station and five metro stations: Dobryninskaya, Novokuznetskaya, Paveletskaya, Serpukhovskaya, and Tretyakovskaya.
