The Naymushin Palace of Culture is a cultural and leisure center in Ust-Ilimsk, located on Tchaikovsky Street in the city’s Left Bank district. Its address is 1 Tchaikovsky Street. The building was constructed in 1981 based on a design by the Bratskgesstroy architectural department under the supervision of Georgy Maksimenko. Originally, it was named the Palace of Culture for Power Engineers (“DK Energetikov”). This five-story brick building includes a 509-seat auditorium, a multi-purpose hall, a disco hall, and a rotating stage. In 2019, a 41-seat movie theater was opened inside the complex.
The Palace of Culture is home to 10 amateur art groups and 8 hobby associations with a total of 785 participants. Four of its groups have been awarded the honorary title “People’s” (Narodny): the Veterans’ Choir of War and Labor, the folk ensemble Russkaya Pesnya (“Russian Song”), the ballet theater Sunny Glimpses, and the vocal ensemble Ust-Ilim Cossacks. Every year, the Naymushin Palace of Culture hosts more than 300 events, including concerts, festivals, themed evenings, and theatrical performances.
In front of the building lies a square that serves as a popular gathering place for city events and local recreation. In 2018, a fountain was installed on the square, donated and landscaped by employees of the Ust-Ilimsk CHP plant, which became a significant milestone for the city. Ust-Ilimsk itself is a young industrial city in northwestern Irkutsk Region, about 950 km from the regional capital, Irkutsk. Founded in 1973, it is primarily supported by forestry and energy enterprises, which form the backbone of its economy.
