Located on the right bank of the Luga River, Kingisepp is the administrative center of Kingisepp District, situated 100 km southeast of Gatchina and 135 km southeast of Saint Petersburg. With a population of approximately 50,000 and an area of 44 km², it ranks as the ninth-largest city in Leningrad Oblast, following Murino, Gatchina, Vsevolozhsk, Vyborg, Sertolovo, Kudrovo, Tikhvin, and Kirishi. Three major federal highways—A180 ‘Narva,’ E20, and 41K-005—pass through the city, ensuring excellent connectivity.

Kingisepp is one of Leningrad Oblast’s oldest cities, founded in 1384 as Yam or Yamgorod. In 1703, Tsar Peter the Great renamed it Yamburg. After the October Revolution, Soviet authorities renamed it Kingisepp in 1922 to honor Estonian revolutionary Viktor Kingisepp. Steeped in history, the city blends its medieval roots with modern vibrancy.
