The live webcam shows Bratsky Garden (also known as Bratsky Sadik), a historic city park in Astrakhan, Russia.
The park is located in the Kirovsky District, next to the Astrakhan Kremlin, and is bounded by Sovetskaya Street, Vasily Trediakovsky Street, Akhmatovskaya Street, and Kirova Street. It is designated as a cultural heritage site of regional significance and is one of the oldest public spaces in the city.
Key landmarks within the park include the Monument to the Fighters for Soviet Power (1977), a memorial complex with the Eternal Flame and an obelisk dedicated to fallen soldiers, the Monument to Astrakhan Cossacks (2015), as well as commemorative plaques and a stele honoring the city’s defenders. The garden’s layout features alleys, recreational areas, memorial ensembles, and landscaped greenery, combining the functions of a place of remembrance and a public park.
In the 18th century, the area of today’s park was occupied by the Trade Square of the White City, designed by provincial architect Alexander Digby. In 1825, the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant Court) was built here, designed by architect Depedri. Over the years, the square was known as the Parade Ground and the Governor’s Square. In 1884, it was renamed Alexandrovskaya Square in honor of Emperor Alexander II, for whom a monument by sculptor Alexander Opekushin was erected. In 1886, a park was laid out around the monument.
After the revolutionary events of 1917, the monument to the Tsar was demolished. In February 1918, 180 workers who died in the battles for Soviet power were buried on the square. Since then, the park has been known as Bratsky Garden (“Brotherly Garden”).
