The Peter I Monument commemorates Emperor Peter I, under whose decree the Astrakhan Governorate was established on November 22, 1717. During Peter I’s reign, trade, industry, fishing, and viticulture developed in the Astrakhan Governorate. The monument was unveiled on May 22, 2007, marking the 285th anniversary of Peter I’s decree establishing the governorate. It is located on the Petrovskaya Embankment along the Volga River in central Astrakhan, aligned with Governor Anatoly Guzhvin Avenue, offering views of the river.

The monument features a bronze sculpture of Peter I mounted on a pink granite pedestal on a circular platform. The pedestal is designed as a compass rose, with compass letters indicating the cardinal directions and four forged anchors at its points. The total height of the monument, including the pedestal, is approximately 9 meters. A small semicircular landscaped square surrounds the monument. The Peter I Monument is a prominent landmark in Astrakhan and one of the architectural highlights of the Petrovskaya Embankment.
