Located on Nikolaeva Street in the western part of the city near the Luga River, at the address Nikolaeva Street 6, the Catherine Cathedral is Kingisepp’s main Orthodox church. Constructed between 1764 and 1782 in the Catherine Baroque style by architect Antonio Rinaldi, the cathedral features a later-added three-tier bell tower. Standing at 45 meters tall, it is one of the city’s tallest structures and a prominent landmark.
During World War II, the cathedral suffered significant damage but was fully restored between 1965 and 1979. From October 1979 to May 1990, it housed the ‘Old Yamburg’ exhibition of the Kingisepp Historical and Local Lore Museum. Today, the Catherine Cathedral serves as the city’s primary active Orthodox church and remains one of Kingisepp’s most significant architectural and historical attractions, viewable in real time through this webcam.
