Gostiny Dvor is a large department store located on Nevsky Prospect in the historic heart of Saint Petersburg, recognized as an 18th-century architectural and historical monument. Built as the largest commercial structure in the Russian Empire in the early classicism style, it was commissioned by Empress Elizabeth Petrovna in 1748, designed by architects Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli and Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe. Construction spanned a quarter-century, from 1761 to 1785. Originally known as the central wholesale Gostiny Dvor, it has been a department store since the early 20th century.

Gostiny Dvor occupies an entire city block bounded by Nevsky Prospect, Sadovaya Street, Lomonosova Street, and Perinnaya Line, with its main facade facing Nevsky Prospect (house No. 35). The complex covers a total area of 78,000 square meters, with 13,000 square meters dedicated to retail space. It houses numerous stores, the Museum of the History of Saint Petersburg and Russian Merchant Trade, and the entrance to the Gostiny Dvor metro station. The Great Gostiny Dvor is a prominent and popular landmark in Saint Petersburg’s historic center and is included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
