The Museum of the World Ocean is Russia’s first and largest maritime museum, dedicated to the flora and fauna of the world’s oceans, as well as ocean hydrology, geology, and navigation. Located at 1 Petrovskaya Embankment along the Pregolya River in the heart of Kaliningrad, just a short walk from the Cathedral on Kant Island, it is one of the city’s most popular attractions, welcoming over 350,000 visitors each year.
The museum complex spans more than 10,000 m² and holds over 50,000 exhibits. Highlights include the main building with the permanent exhibition “The Ocean: A Touch…” featuring aquariums, the “Marine Königsberg–Kaliningrad” exhibition center, and the “Packhaus” exhibition hall. On the embankment, visitors can also explore museum ships such as the research vessels Cosmonaut Viktor Patsayev and Vityaz, the fishing trawler SRT-129, the legendary icebreaker Krasin, and the submarine museum B-413. The museum continues to expand, with future plans including a new “World Ocean” exhibition and a yacht marina.
One of its most captivating attractions is the Navy Center “Cube of Water”, which showcases numerous aquariums with marine life from the ocean depths. The center also houses a naval history exhibition featuring weaponry such as mines, artillery, anti-aircraft guns, historic cannons, cannonballs, and more.
