The Lena Railway Station is the main train station in Ust-Kut and is part of the East Siberian Railway. It is located on Kirov Street in the western part of the city, and its name comes from the nearby Lena River. The station grounds include ticket offices, cafés, shops, a waiting hall, ATMs, storage lockers, and more. The station opened in 1958 and operates 24/7. In addition to the Lena Station, Ust-Kut also has several other railway stations: Lena-Vostochnaya, Yakurim, and Ust-Kut. In front of the station building, there is a parking lot and a small park.

Ust-Kut is the eighth-largest city in the Irkutsk Region and serves as the administrative center of Ust-Kut District. As of 2020, its population was about 40,700 people, and the city covers an area of 56 km². Ust-Kut is located almost in the geographical center of the Irkutsk Region, at the confluence of the Lena and Kuta Rivers, about 510 km north of Irkutsk and 333 km east of Bratsk. The local climate is sharply continental, with extreme differences between daily and yearly temperatures. In winter, temperatures can drop as low as −53 °C (−63 °F), while in summer they may rise to +37 °C (99 °F). Precipitation is minimal and falls mostly during the summer months.
