Gorodishche is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of Gorodishchensky District in the Volgograd Region of Russia. It is located in the southern part of European Russia, on the Mokraya Mechetka River, about 15 kilometers northwest of central Volgograd. The settlement has convenient transport connections via regional highways and railway lines linking it with Volgograd and nearby municipalities. Gorodishche is served by the Razgulyaevka railway station. The settlement has a population of about 23,000 people.

The Square of the 40th Anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad is the central and largest square in Gorodishche. It was established to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Battle of Stalingrad (1942–1943). The square is located in the town center, opposite the Gorodishchensky District Administration building, at the intersection of Gorodishche’s main streets—Lenin Avenue and Marshal Chuikov Street. It features an open plaza area, walking zones, greenery, benches, and a large dry fountain in the middle, with jets of water rising directly from the ground.
