The Moscow Region, a key part of Russia’s Central Federal District, spans 44,329 km² and is home to approximately 8.59 million people. Surrounding the capital city of Moscow—a separate federal entity—the region borders Tver, Vladimir, Ryazan, Tula, Kaluga, and Smolensk Regions. While Moscow serves as the region’s administrative hub alongside Krasnogorsk, where some regional government offices are located, it is not part of the Moscow Region itself.

Climate
The Moscow Region enjoys a temperate continental climate with warm, humid summers and relatively cold winters.
