The House of Soviets is an abandoned and never-completed building located in the very heart of Kaliningrad. Considered one of the city’s most prominent long-term construction projects, it has also become one of Kaliningrad’s symbolic landmarks. The building stands at the intersection of Shevchenko Street and Leninsky Avenue, right next to the ruins of Königsberg Castle. In fact, it was built directly on the former moat of the old castle. Construction began in 1970, designed by architect L.V. Misozhnikov, who envisioned a massive, imposing structure in the then-popular style of Soviet modernism. The project features two identical high-rise towers connected by a shared podium.

By the early 2000s, the building’s exterior was completed, but interior work was never started. For Kaliningrad’s 750th anniversary in 2005, the exterior was renovated: the walls were painted, and windows were installed. Through this live stream, viewers can see the House of Soviets, the square in front of it, and the ongoing excavations at the site of Königsberg Castle’s ruins. The webcam also provides real-time weather conditions over central Kaliningrad. In the background, you can spot the iconic Königsberg Cathedral, located on Immanuel Kant Island.
