Assumption Cathedral Live Cam, Astrakhan
The live webcam streams the Assumption Cathedral in the city of Astrakhan, Russia.
The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Assumption Cathedral) is the active cathedral of the Astrakhan Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church and the main Orthodox church of Astrakhan. Built between 1699 and 1710, it is one of the oldest churches in the city. The cathedral is located within the Astrakhan Kremlin and today stands as one of its most significant landmarks. It is an outstanding example of early 18th-century Russian church architecture and is the only Orthodox church in Russia where the cathedral and the “Lobnoye Mesto” (a traditional platform for public proclamations) are combined.
Between 1903 and 1912, a cathedral bell tower was constructed next to the cathedral, designed by architect S. I. Karyagin. Officially known as the Prechistensky Gate with the over-gate cathedral bell tower, it also stands within the Kremlin walls. Both the Assumption Cathedral and the Cathedral Bell Tower are listed as cultural heritage monuments of the peoples of Russia. This live webcam shows the Assumption Cathedral and part of the Astrakhan Kremlin from the Prechistensky Gate bell tower. In the background, you can see the Volga River and a panoramic view of Astrakhan’s historic district. The webcam also provides a real-time look at the weather in the very heart of Astrakhan.
