Griboyedov Canal Live Webcam, Saint Petersburg
The live webcam provides real-time views of the Griboyedov Canal in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The Griboyedov Canal connects the Moika and Fontanka Rivers and runs through the heart of Saint Petersburg. Its embankment is considered one of the most picturesque in Russia’s Northern Capital. The canal stretches 5 kilometers in length, with a width of about 32 meters and a depth of up to 3.5 meters. It begins at the Moika River near the Field of Mars, Mikhailovsky Garden, and the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, flows primarily southwest, and joins the Fontanka River near the Malo-Kalinkin Bridge, close to Repin Square.
The canal was renamed in 1923 after the October Revolution in honor of Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov, a Russian diplomat, poet, and playwright. Griboyedov lived at house No. 104/25 (Valch House) along the canal’s embankment, where he wrote the opening lines of his famous work, Woe from Wit. The canal’s embankment is lined with numerous historic buildings, tenement houses, and mansions. The webcam is located at building No. 116 near the Higher School of Economics, with the dome of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood visible in the background. Nearby are the Nikolsky Naval Cathedral and Nikolsky Rows.
