Trapani is a city and the capital of the province of the same name, situated on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the westernmost part the island of Sicily. The city has a population of approximately 70,000 residents and covers an area of 272 square kilometers (105 square miles). The name of the city comes from the Greek word “Drepanon,” meaning “sickle,” which accurately describes the shape of the city’s historical coastline, resembling a sickle. Trapani is renowned for its picturesque nature, rich history, and numerous historical landmarks.

Some of the most notable attractions in Trapani include the 17th-century Ligny Tower (La Torre di Ligny), the historic Via Garibaldi with ancient churches and palaces, Palazzo Milo, Palazzo Riccio di Morana, Badia Nuova Church, the Senatorial Palace (Palazzo Senatorio or Cavarretta), and the Pepoli Museums.
