Munich Central Station (German: München Hauptbahnhof) is the largest railway station in Germany by number of tracks and the largest of Munich’s three railway stations.
It is located in the central part of the city 1.4 km west of Marienplatz. The total area of Munich Central Station is 760 thousand square meters.. It has 32 above-ground railway tracks and 2 underground railway tracks. The station was opened on September 1, 1839 as a railway station on the Munich-Lochhausen railway line.
Today, Munich Central Station provides rail connections to Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne and many other cities in Bavaria It serves approximately 350 thousand passengers daily. There are also train connections to Paris, Prague, and Salzburg.
