The Collegiate Church of Saint Ursus (Italian: Collegiata di Sant’Orso) is one of the main attractions in Aosta and part of one of the largest religious complexes in the Italian Alps. It was originally built in the 5th century on the site of an early Christian basilica and underwent significant reconstruction in the 9th century. The church is located in the center of Aosta in the Valle d’Aosta region of northern Italy. The church was dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Ursus, an Irish priest who preached in the Roman city of Augusta Praetoria (modern-day Aosta). The Collegiate Church of Saint Ursus and its adjoining cloister are a magnificent example of authentic Romanesque architectural style.
Aosta is a charming town and the capital of the autonomous region of Valle d’Aosta in northwestern Italy. It is situated on the left bank of the Dora Baltea River in the Alps, at an elevation of 585 meters (1,919 feet) above sea level, 110 kilometers (68 miles) northwest of Turin. The city has a population of approximately 35,000 people and covers an area of 21.4 km² (8.26 mi²). Aosta is known for its rich history, stunning alpine scenery, and well-preserved Roman architecture.
