Piazza Bra is the main and largest square in Verona, serves as the historical, cultural, social, and tourist center of the city. Located in the historic center of Verona it is surrounded by palaces and prominent architectural landmarks from the Roman era. The main attraction of Piazza Bra is the fourth largest Roman amphitheatre in modern Italy Verona Arena (Italian: Arena di Verona). Today, Verona Arena is also a world-famous concert venue, hosting events such as the annual summer opera Arena di Verona Festival.
Near the amphitheater stands the elegant Palazzo Barbieri in neoclassical style, while on the opposite side is the Palazzo della Gran Guardia. At the center of Piazza Bra is a square-shaped park featuring equestrian monument to Victor Emmanuel II, erected in 1883, the Alps Fountain, and a monument to Italian partisans ‘who fell for freedom’ during World War II. Piazza Bra is the main place for concerts, city markets, and cultural events in Verona throughout the year, attracting a large number of tourists from around the world.
