Palinkopf is an impressive peak in the Samnaun Alps, located on the border between Austria (Tyrol) and Switzerland (Graubünden). The mountain rises to an elevation of 2,864 meters (9,396 feet) and forms part of the renowned Ischgl–Samnaun ski region, attracting skiers and tourists year-round. Palinkopf lies to the west of the village of Samnaun and to the southwest of Ischgl, surrounded by other notable peaks such as Greitspitz and Flimspitz.
Palinkopf is an integral part of the cross-border Ischgl–Samnaun ski area, celebrated for its wide, well-maintained slopes, high-quality snow conditions, and modern infrastructure. The resort features more than 239 kilometers (149 miles) of groomed runs that cater to skiers of all experience levels. The slopes are served by state-of-the-art lift systems, including the Palinkopfbahn, which transports visitors to an altitude of 2,867 meters (9,406 feet).
During the warmer months, Palinkopf transforms into a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails lead to the summit, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Alps. Mountain biking trails of varying difficulty crisscross the area, making it a popular destination for cyclists. The mountain’s rich flora and fauna, along with its scenic landscapes, also make it an ideal spot for nature photographers. The summer season provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the peace and beauty of alpine meadows. Palinkopf is accessible via cable cars such as the Palinkopfbahn from Ischgl, or via hiking trails and lifts from the Swiss side near Samnaun.
