Warnemünde is a popular coastline resort and one of the districts of the city of Rostock in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in northeastern Germany. It is located on the Baltic Sea coast 11 km north of the center of Rostock. Warnemünde was founded around 1200 as a small fishing village and in 1323 it became the coastal district of Rostock to provide access of the city to the Baltic Sea. Warnemünde began to develop as a resort in the 19th century. The very wide sandy beach of Warnemünde is the largest beach on the Baltic coast of Germany, which has about 3 km long.
