Koksijde is a picturesque coastal municipality in the province of West Flanders, located on the North Sea coast in southwestern Belgium. The municipality has a population of approximately 21,546 residents and covers an area of 43.96 square kilometers (about 16.97 square miles). It comprises several towns and villages, including Koksijde itself, Oostduinkerke, Sint-Idesbald, and Wulpen. In the 20th century, Koksijde evolved from a modest fishing village into a well-known seaside resort. Reconstruction after World War II and the rise of mass tourism led to significant urban development. Today, Koksijde blends historical charm with modern amenities, attracting a large number of visitors every year.

The historic center of Koksijde is located about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) inland from the North Sea coast. Along the shore, the modern seaside district of Koksijde-Bad was developed, featuring well-established infrastructure and a wide range of recreational facilities. Koksijde is known for its expansive sandy beaches, which stretch for more than 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) along the North Sea coast, all the way to the French city of Dunkirk. Depending on the tide, the beach width varies from 50 to 250 meters (164 to 820 feet). Along the beachfront, visitors will find numerous restaurants, cafés, hotels, and opportunities for outdoor and water-based activities.
