Trieste is a large city, the administrative center of the province of Trieste in northeastern Italy, and the country’s largest seaport. It is situated on the coast of the Gulf of Trieste in the Adriatic Sea, on the northwestern edge of the Balkan Peninsula, close to the Slovenian border. Trieste attracts a significant number of tourists from around the world with its rich historical heritage and unique architecture.

Among the most notable attractions in Trieste are the Basilica of San Giusto, Roman ruins (the city was an important Roman settlement known as Tergeste), Church of Saint Michael, Miramare Castle, San Giusto Castle, Duino Castle, and Grotta Gigante, one of the largest caves in the world. The city is also home to Risiera di San Sabba, the only Nazi concentration camp on Italian soil where mass executions took place.

Today, Trieste is also an important cultural hub in Italy, with numerous museums, theaters, and galleries. The city hosts numerous international events, festivals, and conferences each year. At the heart of Trieste is Piazza Unità d’Italia, the city’s main square and the largest sea-facing square in Europe. This vital public space, surrounded by magnificent palaces and administrative buildings, regularly hosts concerts, fairs, and other events.
