Cuxhaven is a town and seat of the same name district in Lower Saxony in northern Germany. It is located at the confluence of the Elbe River into the North Sea in the northernmost part of Lower Saxony, 109 km west of Hamburg. It has an area of 162 km² and is home to about 48,000 people. From the 13th century until 1937, Cuxhaven was part of Hamburg, and the town is home to an important fishing pier of the port of Hamburg.

A long sandy Duhnen Beach stretches along the North Sea coast with many breakwaters protecting it from strong waves. The beach is 4 km long and up to 60 meters wide. Along of the beach there are many restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, and apartments. The old wooden lighthouse Kugelbake, located at the eastern end of the Duhnen Beach, is the main attraction of Cuxhaven. It marks the border between the North Sea and the mouth of the Elbe River. Cuxhaven is one of the popular summer destinations not only in Lower Saxony, but also in the whole of Germany.
