L’Ametlla de Mar is a small fishing town on the Mediterranean coast in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, located 55 kilometers (34 miles) southwest of Tarragona and 150 kilometers (93 miles) southwest of Barcelona. Fishing and tourism are the main economic activities in L’Ametlla de Mar, with the town’s port hosting a large fleet of fishing vessels, including the main fleet for tuna fishing in Catalonia.
L’Ametlla de Mar is a popular resort on the Costa Dorada, known for its picturesque coves, pebbly and white sandy beaches, and excellent restaurants serving Catalan cuisine and seafood dishes. Alguer Beach (Catalan: Platja de l’Alguer) is the main beach of L’Ametlla de Mar. It is situated in a small semicircular bay in the town center and is well-protected from strong waves by two breakwaters. The beach features fine white sand and is adjacent to a small recreational park with benches and palm trees, as well as numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars.
