Goslar is located at the foot of the Harz Mountains in Lower Saxony in central Germany. It is well known for its the old town with cobbled streets and half-timbered houses with small windows, the medieval atmosphere, and many historical and ancient landmarks. The most famous landmark of the city is the fountain on the market square with the figure of an eagle, which is the symbol of the city and marks the center of Goslar. The lower part of the fountain was built in the 12th century and is an excellent example of Romanesque bronze casting. The upper part of the fountain and the figure of the eagle were created in the 13th century, and the crown was already in the 18th century.
