Oulu is the 5th largest city in Finland and the regional capital of Oulu sub-region of Northern Ostrobothnia in Finland. It has an area of 1513 km² and about 198 thousand inhabitants. The city is located at the confluence of the Oulujoki River into the Gulf of Bothnia of the Baltic Sea in the northwest of the country. Oulu was founded in 1605 and is the oldest city in Northern Finland. The climate in the region is subarctic, with cold snowy winters and short summers. The Market Square is the main square of the city of Oulu, located in the center of the city. Old barns built in the 1700s and 1800s and cafes, restaurants and craft shops are located on the Market Square. The main square of Oulu is home to the Kauppatori Market, where can buy many goods and local souvenirs.
