De Haan is a town and scenic seaside resort located in the province of West Flanders, in northwestern Belgium. It is renowned for its Belle Époque architecture, long sandy beaches, and peaceful atmosphere. The town lies along the North Sea coast, approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) northeast of Ostend and 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) northwest of Bruges. De Haan has a population of around 12,700 people and covers an area of about 42.2 square kilometers (16.3 square miles).

The town features a large number of parks and green spaces, making it the greenest resort along the entire Belgian coast. Nearby are two nature reserves — De Kijkuit and De Zandpanne — that offer quiet retreats into nature. The historic center of De Haan, built in the early 20th century in the Belle Époque style, has preserved its unique architecture, with villas featuring bay windows, arched windows, and decorative elements. One particularly notable area is the Concessie district, home to many of these elegant buildings.

De Haan is especially known for its stunning sandy beaches, which stretch for 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) and reach up to 500 meters (1,640 feet) wide in places. The beaches are well equipped with showers, first aid stations, and lifeguard posts. A favorite among visitors is Vosseslag Beach, which spans 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) and is located near the interactive Sea Life Center aquarium. Popular outdoor activities in De Haan include windsurfing, kayaking, golf, and horseback riding.

Notable attractions in De Haan include the De Haan–Wenduine promenade, which is 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) long and offers breathtaking views of the North Sea; the 13th-century Church of Saint Leonard; the central Markt Square; and Villa Les Zéphyrs, a museum that showcases life at the beginning of the 20th century. Each year, the town hosts the Trammelant Festival, a Belle Époque–themed event featuring costumed parades and vintage cars.
