Santa Maria Formosa Square is one of the oldest and largest squares in Venice, located in the historic Castello district in the central part of the city, 600 meters (about 8 minutes walking) northeast of St. Mark’s Square and 600 meters east of the Grand Canal.

The square is home to the Church of Santa Maria Formosa, built in 1492 in the Renaissance architectural style by Italian architect Mauro Codussi. The church houses several masterpieces of the Venetian school of painting, including the polyptych “Saint Barbara with Saints” by Palma il Vecchio and the triptych “Madonna della Misericordia” by Bartolomeo Vivarini. The square is surrounded by historic buildings housing hotels, restaurants, and cafes.

This live webcam is installed at the Ruzzini Palace Hotel, whose rooms offer a beautiful view of the square and the Church of Santa Maria Formosa. The hotel offers its guests a bar, lounge, free Wi-Fi, and cozy rooms in traditional Venetian style. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, a minibar, and a bathroom with a shower. In the morning, guests are served a traditional Italian breakfast. Right next to the hotel, across the square, flows a canal where water taxis stop.
