The Royal Palace of Caserta is a vast countryside palace of the Neapolitan kings in the city of Caserta, in the Campania region, in the southwest of Italy. The palace was the largest building constructed in Europe in the 18th century. It has 1,200 rooms and covers an area of 245,000 square meters. The palace was built from 1752 to 1780 designed by the Italian architect Luigi Vanvitelli for international prestige and security, as the main royal residence in Naples was vulnerable to sea attacks. In 1997, the palace in Caserta was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. It was used as a filming location for famous movies such as “Star Wars,” “Mission: Impossible,” “The Da Vinci Code,” and “Angels & Demons.
