Lido di Ostia is a town in the province of Rome, Italy. It is located on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea at the mouth of the Tiber River, 32 km (20 miles) southwest of central Rome. Founded in 1884, it is one of the most popular resorts in the vicinity of Rome. Lido di Ostia is a popular resort due to its proximity to Rome with its famous historical and architectural monuments and its excellent sandy beaches. Also nearby (6 km or 3.7 miles to the north) is the ancient city of Ostia Antica, the first colony of the Roman Empire, founded in the 7th century BC.
