Blankenberge is well known for its wide, sandy beaches stretching along the North Sea coast. The beaches are fully equipped for a comfortable stay, offering lounge chairs, umbrellas, showers, and changing cabins. A lively promenade runs alongside the beach, lined with cafés, restaurants, and shops. Among Blankenberge’s main attractions are Sea Life Blankenberge, an aquarium showcasing a wide variety of marine creatures including sharks, sea turtles, and rays; Casino Blankenberge, one of the oldest casinos in Belgium; and the Lustige Velodroom, a historic wooden cycling track built in 1933, where visitors can ride quirky and unusual bicycles.
The Belgian pier in Blankenberge is a unique structure originally built in 1933 in Art Deco style by architect Jules Soete. It remains the only pier on the Belgian coast that extends into the sea, reaching 350 meters (1,148 feet) in length. The original pier, constructed in 1894, was destroyed during World War I. The current concrete pier, inaugurated in 1933, has since become one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. From the pier, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the North Sea and the surrounding coastline. At the end of the pier, a restaurant offers local cuisine and freshly caught seafood in a memorable setting.
