Troina is a small and picturesque town located in the central part of northeastern of the island of Sicily. It is situated in the province of Enna on the southern slopes of the Nebrodi Mountains, at an elevation of 1,121 meters above sea level, 55 kilometers (34.2 miles) west of Mount Etna and 166 kilometers (103.1 miles) east of Palermo. The town covers an area of 167 square kilometers (64.5 square miles) and is home to approximately 10,000 residents. Troina is renowned for its breathtaking views, particularly of Mount Etna and the surrounding landscapes.

Troina has a rich and ancient history dating back to the 4th century BC. In the Middle Ages, it served as a fortress for the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs. The town’s main attraction is its historic center, which has retained its medieval character with narrow streets, historic stone houses, and ancient arches.

Key architectural dominants in Troina include the Capitania Tower, the ruins of a Norman castle, and the Church of Maria Santissima Assunta. Troina is surrounded by picturesque mountain landscapes featuring pastures and forests. Lake Ancipa, the highest lake in Sicily, is located in the Nebrodi Mountains, about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) northwest of Troina.
