Castellammare del Golfo is a small town located on the northwest coast of the island of Sicily in southern Italy, known for its rich history and fascinating attractions. It is situated on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea, 57 kilometers (35 miles) west of Palermo and 60 kilometers (37 miles) northeast of Marsala. The town covers an area of 127 square kilometers (49 square miles) and is home to around 14,600 people. In the 20th century, Castellammare del Golfo was one of the main centers of the Sicilian Mafia. Several prominent leaders of the Italian-American Mafia, such as Salvatore Maranzano, Stefano Magaddino, and Joe Bonanno, were born in Castellammare.

The main attraction and symbol of Castellammare del Golfo is the ancient Arab-Norman Castle (Italian: Castello Arabo-Normanno), with its first mention dating back to 1154. The castle was built by the Arabs and significantly fortified during the Norman rule. The name “Castellammare del Golfo” literally translates from Italian as “sea fortress in the gulf.” In the town, you can explore old churches, narrow streets, and typical Sicilian architecture. Additionally, along the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea near Castellammare, there are several small picturesque rocky coves and beaches.
