This panoramic webcam provides a stunning live view from the summit of Schmittenhöhe Mountain at Zell am See ski resort, Austria.
Zell am See is a picturesque town and one of Austria’s most popular ski resorts, beautifully situated on the shores of the crystal-clear Lake Zell (Zeller See) and surrounded by majestic Alpine peaks. The town lies approximately 86 kilometers (53 miles) south of Salzburg and about 160 kilometers (99 miles) east of Innsbruck, making it easily accessible by car or via Salzburg’s international airport.
The ski season typically runs from early December to mid-April, with consistently reliable snow conditions thanks to excellent slope maintenance and proximity to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. The main skiing area is located on the slopes of Schmittenhöhe Mountain, which reaches an elevation of 2,000 meters (6,562 feet). The resort offers over 70 kilometers (43 miles) of groomed slopes, catering to all skill levels—from beginner (blue runs) to advanced (black runs). Most trails are ideal for intermediate skiers, though there are also plenty of options for both novices and experts.
Zell am See has a population of approximately 10,131 residents. Together with the neighboring town of Kaprun—home to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, which rises to 3,029 meters (9,938 feet)—Zell am See forms the Zell am See–Kaprun ski region. This ski area provides access to more than 400 kilometers (249 miles) of slopes across three major ski zones: Schmitten, Kitzsteinhorn, and Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn (known collectively as Skicircus Saalbach). Zell am See is a year-round destination, attracting visitors not only in winter but also during the warmer months. In summer, the region offers a variety of activities, including swimming and boating on the lake, hiking in the surrounding mountains, and horseback riding.
Schmittenhöhe is a landmark peak in the Austrian Alps, located on the eastern edge of the Kitzbühel Alps, directly above Zell am See. The summit rises to 1,965 meters (6,447 feet) above sea level and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Zell, over 30 surrounding Alpine peaks exceeding 3,000 meters (9,843 feet), including the Hohe Tauern range, and the Saalach Valley. This mountain is considered one of the top ski destinations in the Salzburg region, offering diverse terrain for skiers of all abilities. The elevation range within the ski area spans from 760 meters (2,493 feet) to 2,000 meters (6,562 feet), with a total of 77 kilometers (48 miles) of ski runs.
